Why foreign firms get stuck here

Indian infrastructure finance mixes domestic banks and infrastructure lenders, bond markets, export credit from the supplier’s home country and multilateral and bilateral development finance. Each has its own appetite, documents and timeline.

Foreign sponsors often approach the wrong lenders first, or arrive without the information an Indian credit committee expects.

What you get

  • A funding map

Indian banks and infrastructure lenders, export credit agencies from your home country, and multilateral and bilateral lenders active in your sector, with what each typically funds.

Questions foreign firms ask us

Are you a lender or a broker?

Neither. We are advisers. We do not lend, hold client money or arrange regulated investment products.

Do multilateral banks fund private contractors in India?

Mostly they lend to governments and public agencies, which then award contracts under the lender’s procurement rules. Some, through their private-sector arms, also finance private projects directly.

How can we finance imported equipment?

Export credit from your home country is often the most competitive route, as supplier credit or buyer credit. We help you and your Indian buyer set it up.

What do Indian lenders want to see?

A clear contract with payment security, credible sponsors, a realistic schedule and cost, and an understanding of approvals and land status.

Can you help raise equity for an Indian platform?

We can introduce suitable investors and partners and support commercial diligence, working with regulated intermediaries where required.

When should we involve you?

Before you sign. Funding problems are much easier to fix at the term sheet stage than after award.
